In June 2010, we increased our herd from 5 to 10, and as the summer of 2010 has passed the herd has increased further, two more cria so far to make 12, we still have one on the way, and we have also acquired our own stud male - Pepsi. Here's a short introduction to them all, and pictures of each can be found on the following pages:-
First, our original five!
Cusco is our first own bred llama and was born in 2008. He is in the main a white llama, but has a few black facial markings that give him the appearance of having a moustache and eyebrows! He has just started his training and will allow the halter to be put on, and is happy to be led, but prefers others to be nearby.
WilburWilbur is nearly three years old now, and is a gelded male, and we hope he will be leading trekker once he completes his training. Wilbur came from Annie Austin's Watertown Llamas, near South Molton.
ClaraClara is one of our breeding females and also came from Watertown Llamas. She is a very gentle llama and can be heard quietly humming to herself as she munches on grass or hay!
Lima is the second of our breeding females, and our first llama. Before I forget, Lima is Cusco's mum!
Last years addition to the herd, and a great well done to Lima, mum to our second healthy cria - Nazca!
That was going to be it for a while, we had lost our stud male and so we had a break - and then in the beginning of 2010 we had the urge to try again, and rather than have our own stud, we went off to see if we could borrow, or hire someone elses and we came across Llamalland - OK we didn't just come across them, we'd known them for a while, but because we did, we asked them and they said yes they had 5 stud males, so a real choice.
We went down and had a fantastic day out wandering around Llamalland's llamas, and we liked a few of their studs, and as both Clara and Lima needed a mate, we chose two and arranged a day and time to go visit. We left the girls down there for 3-4 weeks and when we went to collect them we decided that we should ask if we could buy a few more, and so we ended up with:-
Evelyn & Eclair (a believed pregnant female with cria at foot)!
Katie (pregnant with the soon to be born Sir Llanacellot)
Willow (pregnant with the soon to be born Wispa)
Bella (pregnant with the soon to be born - ooh we still don't know - watch this space)
With all these pregnant females having banies, we were back to needing a stud, so full circle this is where Pepsi comes in!
So that's it - when Bella has her cria, due in August, we will be up to 14 llamas - Lima, Clara and Evelyn will have bables due from Llamalland Studs sometime in the spring of 2011, and then Katie, Willow and Bella will be due with Pepsi's first (for us) offspring this time next year.
